걷다 동사의 뉘앙스 차이
우리말로 걷다 라는 동사를 영어에서는 어떻게 표현할까?
알고 있는 몇몇 동사를 포함해서 찾아봤다
walk : move on one's feet.
A woman walks along a track. (한 여자가 선로를 따라 걷고 있다)
A woman walks with a dog on city street. (한 여자가 개 한마리와 도심을 걷고 있다)
A woman walks on the street. (한 여자가 거리를 걷고 있다)
I couldn't walk well. (나는 제대로 걸을 수가 없었다)
Will you take a walk with me? (나랑 산책갈래?)
A woman creep on the street. (한 여자가 거리를 살금살금 걷고 있다)
I hate it when you creep up on me like that. (그런식으로 살금살금 다가오지 마)
A tiger is creeping slowly toward his dinner. (호랑이 한마리가 저녁 먹잇감을 향해 천천히 소리없이 다가가고 있다)
limp : walk unevenly because one leg is hurt.
That man is hurt, he's limping. (저 남자는 다쳐서 다리를 절뚝거려)
He walks with a slight limp. (그는 걸을 때 다리를 약간 전다)
He limps slightly after his car crash. (그는 교통사고를 당한 후 다리를 약간 전다)
shuffle : walk very slowly and noisily, without lifting one's feet off the ground.
He shuffled across the room to the window. (그는 발을 질질 끌며 방을 가로질러 창가로 갔다)
stagger : walk unsteadily as if about to fall.
He was so drunk that he staggered all the way home. (그는 술을 너무 마셔서 비틀거리며 집에 갔다)
Dennis staggered out of pub. (데니스는 비틀거리며 술집 밖으로 나왔다)
He managed to stagger home. (그는 비틀거리며 간신히 집에 왔다)
plod: walk with heavy steps or with difficulty.
The tired children plodded home. (지친 아이들이 무거운 발거음으로 집에 돌아갔다)
tiptoe : walk on the tips of one's toes.
She tiptoed to the bed so as not to wake the baby. (그녀는 꼿발로 침대로 갔다. 애가 깨지 않도록 하려고)
stroll : walk for pleasure.
They strolled around the park. (그들은 공원 근처를 산책했다)
wander : move without a fixed purpose or destination.
They enjoy wandering through the countryside. (그들은 시골 여기저기를 즐겁게 돌아다녀)
pace : walk with regular steps.
He paced up and down the platform, waiting for the train. (그는 플랫폼을 왔다갔다했다. 기차를 기다리면서)
stride: walk with long steps. (큰 보폭으로 걷다)
She strode across the fields. (그녀는 필드를 큰 보폭으로 걸었다 → 그녀는 성큼 성클 걸었다)
jog: run slowly and steadily, as a way of exercising.
She goes jogging everyday. (그녀는 매일 조깅을 가)
