borrow 와 lend 의 차이
구글링을 해서 찾아보면 영어를 배우는 초보자들이 가장 많이 혼동하는 어휘가 borrow 와 lend 라고 나온다.
Borrow shows that something is (temporarily) taken from another person.
Lend shows that something is (temporarily) given to another person.
borrow 는 타인에게서 잠시 빌리다
lend 는 타인에게 잠시 주다
Can I borrow a book? (책 한권 빌릴 수 있을까?)
Can you lend me a book? (책 한권 빌려줄 수 있어?)
I'm going to ask Dennis to lend me some money. (데니스한테 요청할거야 / 돈 좀 빌려줄 수 있냐고)
I tried to borrow from him, but he said no. (그사람한테 돈 빌려달라고 했지만 / 그사람은 거절했어)
Could you please lend me some money? (돈 좀 빌려줄 수 있어요?)
I borrowed some money from her. (돈을 빌렸어 /그 여자한테)
