do 와 make 의 차이

do 동사가 언제 사용되는지에 대한 걸 찾아봤습니다.

Do is used to describe an activity that you have to do, often over and over again.

For instance, we “do the dishes” and “do the laundry” many times. Do also contains an element of duty and responsibility.

Make is used to describe a creative activity or something you choose to do.

You choose, for instance, to make plans, make friends, and make decisions. You have choices.

Why do we say “make dinner” if we have to do it over and over? (왜 우린 반복적으로 해야 할 일인데도 make dinner라고 할까?)

Perhaps because cooking is seen more as a creative activity than a chore.

아마도 요리는 일(chore)보다는 창조적인 활동으로 더 많이 보여지기 때문이다.

But cleaning the table, and cleaning the dishes are just chores so we say “do the table” and “do the dishes.”

하지만 테이블을 닦기, 접시 닦기와 같은 허드렛 일을 우린 'do the table', 'do the dishes' 라고 말한다.

We use the verb 'make' for constructing, building or creating.
