두 단어의 차이가 뭐냐고 물어보면 두 단어를 단순히 원하다, 필요하다 라고 영한사전에 나온 의미로 나온다.

A want is something you would like to have. It is not absolutely necessary, but it would be a good thing to have.
A good example is music.
'Want' is something that you feel you need, or you really desire, but not having it doesn't mean you die.
A need is something you have to have, something you can't do without. A good example is food.
Needs are the things which make ones satisfaction arise when
attained. Needs can be natural or man-made.
검색해서 찾아보고 나서야 두 단어 want 와 need의 뉘앙스 차이를 이해를 했다.
우리말로 구별을 한다면 need는 '꼭' 이라는 의미를 내포하고 있다고 이해하자.
I need to go. (나 가봐야 돼)
I want to go. (나 가고 싶어)
I need to take tomorrow off. (나 내일 쉬어야 돼)
I want to take today off. (나 오늘 쉬고 싶어)
I don't need it, but I still want it. (그게 필요하진 않지만 그래도 갖고 싶어)
I want apples but I need to buy potatoes. (사과를 원하지만 감자를 사야 해)
We need to talk. (우리 얘기 좀 해)
I don't want to hear that crap. (그런 헛소리 듣고 싶지 않아)
I want to make a phone call to him. (그 남자에게 전화하고 싶어) But I can't do that. (하지만 난 할 수가 없어)
I don't want to give him a second chance. (그 남자에게 주고 싶지 않아. 두번째 기회를 → 그 남자에게 두번 다시 기회를 주고 싶지 않아)
I want you to tell me all about it. (나한테 말해줬음 좋겠어. 그것에 대해 전부다 → 전부 나한테 말해 줬으면 좋겠어)
I want you to call me up sometimes. (가끔 나한테 전화 해줬으면 좋겠어)
I want to get drunk. = I wanna get drunk. (나 취하고 싶어)
